Lansing’s T.J. French hit a Matt Colbert Pitch out over the right field fence to cap the scoring in a 6-0 victory over Dryden. Justin Payne pitched his third consecutive shutout helping the Bobcats into a semifinal berth.
When asked whether he’d rather face number three Windsor or number six Trumansburg, T.J. French had a clear answer.
“Right now I’d rather gate another shot at T-Burg,” French Said.”I think we should go out and get them back.”
Lansing, whose last loss was to Trumansburg, will get their wish.
In a scoreless duel earlier in the day, Trumansburg took Windsor into extra innings tied at 0. The game went past the seven innings regulation high school game, and then past the nine inning college and professional game, all the way to the 11th inning, where the Blue Raiders scored two runs and held on for a 2-0 victory.
The two teams will play Tuesday at a site to be determined, potentially Lansing.

It’s the last hurrah for some teams and start of a long playoff run for other teams, here are the previews for Sectional match-ups.
Class B baseball can get real interesting. Dryden (12-8 ) is a scary team going into this postseason and all you have to do is ask Whitney Point (3-14) about that. Whitney was the latest victim of the Purple Lions’ eight game win streak. They might be the ninth win as well. Dryden will host Whitney point in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday.
Should Dryden win they will play Lansing (20-3) at Lansing on Saturday. Lansing beat Dryden twice this, but that was during Dryden’s 4-8 stretch not their 8-0 stretch. In fact, as far as I know Lansing is the last team to beat Dryden.
Trumansburg (12-7) is in the same half of the bracket and will face off against Watkins Glen (7-12) at home on Thursday at 4:30. Barring an upset, Trumansburg will face third seeded Windsor (15-6). The winner of that match will face the winner of the Lansing quarterfinal match. Lansing has loses to three teams, one to a team they won’t face in Utica Norte Dame, one to Waverly, who they’ve beaten twice since, and one to Trumansburg.
Class C Sectionals is a bit more wide open. Newfield (10-8 ) is the only team in the top half of the bracket and they will play IAC Division III champion Moravia (12-10). The Trojans just missed a home game and will travel to Moravia for the game on Thursday. This should be a close match up between eight and nine seeds. Like it has all season, it will depend on whether Newfield show up and play defense. In their last two games they scored 10 runs and allowed only four. A similar showing could move them on.
Spencer-Van Etten (5-14) has a tough draw at number three seeded Marathon (11-5) on Thursday. The Panthers have shown the ability to play up to any team and have what it takes to beat Moravia, it’s just a matter of whether they will that day or not.
Groton (11-8 ) will travel to Whitney Point to host Delhi (10-9) on Thursday. Groton has been a big of a feast or famine team and struggled a little down the stretch, but as long as Kyle Yunger and company continue to wield hot bats they should move on.
Candor (16-3) came off a disappointing loss to Lansing in the IAC playoffs, but a loss to (1-19) Elmira Norte Dame would be embarrassing. Almost a scrimmage to open the sectional tournament, it will be a good chance for Candor to fix the mistakes they made against Lansing and regain their composure before facing the winner of the Groton/Delhi game on Saturday.
In softball, the section tournament picture is a little more concise. Number six Trumansburg (14-5) will host number 11 Dryden (5-13) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The two teams split their matches but T-Burg took the last match up 6-1 on April 30. Kaitlyn Percy struck out 12 Purple Lions and hit a homerun in the contest.
In Class C Groton (14-5) will host its first home game in the playoffs in eight years against Spencer-Van Etten (9-11). Groton, a team that plays solid defense and can break out the bats when they need to may have their hands full with S-VE. If Tricia Brock is on for the Panthers, Groton may have a tough game ahead of them.
In Section IV CC class ball both the South Seneca boys’ and girls’ play on Tuesday May 27 and results and breakdowns can be found here tomorrow.
